Update 1: See here, show may be canceled. More news soon.

Iron Man Exclusive Trailer

CrunchGear and TechCrunch are hosting a special event tomorrow, April 30 (Wednesday) in San Francisco - a special screening of the movie Iron Man, two days before the official May 2 release.

We’ve rented out the largest theater we could find in the area - The AMC Metreon in San Francisco, which will hold 600 people. Everyone is welcome to attend, and the movie starts at 7:15 pm (you can arrive as early as 6:30).

If you’d like to come, you can purchase a ticket at EventBrite for $1 (the goal is to minimize no shows, which means empty seats). We will check your name against a list of registered attendees at the door.

Why are we doing this? Just to say thank you to our readers and encourage warm fuzzy, advertisement-clicking feelings in you all.

Details:

AMC Loews Metreon 16 with IMAX
101 4th St
San Francisco, CA 94103
(415) 369-6201
Tickets

After the movie we’ll meet at the 4th Street Bar and Grill for drinks, unless you commenters have a better idea.

I will see if I can come…. but one question. Is this 21+?

Michael, do us a favour..dress up as Iron Man, that will rock the show and the afterparty :)

Damn, wish I was on the west coast!

WOW, the movie starts with the evil crazy arab terrorists.. how fvcking original.

Daniel - no, it’s just a movie theater. I’m not even sure if it’s R rated. If it is, and you aren’t allowed to see R movies, bring your parent or guardian I guess.

Great idea! Wish I was on the west coast too! Drats!

@Michael Thanks. The one thing about all these gatherings, like Digg, Web 2.0 Parties, its all 21+, which I hate, since I am 15.

Thanks again Michael. Hopefully I can come…

Very cool, Mike. Now I’m going to get click-happy on some ads ;)

Why do I live on the East Coast!? We need someone to do the same thing over here in NYC. Like stat.

This is a 10 hour drive back & forth for me. Is there going to be any networking going on or not?

I am looking forward to this!

I bought a ticket for a friend, but he bought a ticket for himself before I could tell him. Will someone else be able to use one of the tickets, even with out their name on it?

Mazy - no…please cancel one of the tickets on eventbrite or email us the name so we can take it off and let someone else in.

“encourage warm fuzzy, advertisement-clicking feelings in you all.”

Encouraging others to click on an ad not for its content, but for the revenue it generates someone in direct response to a cheap movie ticket.

Didn’t know MR and Techcrunch actively supported click fraud….

Wow, thanks guys! I’ll be there.

Awesome idea Mike, thank you for setting this up. Looking forward to it.

The blog says 7:15 but Eventbrite claims 7:30. Is Eventbrite factoring in the previews?

Hubby & I have our tickets. This is going to be fun!

Thanks, TechCrunch.

ryan - 7:30 is when the screen goes dark and previews start.

Not alot of RDJr. or IronMan fans eh?

Harry “miss the old move previews at the Centruy theaters” Wang

Wow, this is awesome, bought two. Thanks Michael!

Question –

I bought two tickets both under my name for me + my girlfriend, and then I bought two tickets both under a friend’s name for him + his girlfriend. Will the girlfriends be able to get in even though their names aren’t on the tickets?

Who wants to sponsor me a plane ticket from Toronto? sheesh! i didn’t know it was that easy to rub shoulder with Arrington! i got some opportunities…

Zell: Arrive together, and it won’t be a problem.

Is this really sold out already?!?!?

That can’t be possible, unless someone is taking advantage of the offer and scalping the tickets…

its sold out! does anyone have extra to give away?

What about the TechCrunch / Iron Man fans in / near NYC? Show the love, Mike! =)

i would like to come but its sold out can i be put on waiitng list and come early?
patti

we’re starting a waiting list, there will be some no shows, stay tuned

Nice.. I am sure readers will feel nice to be appreciated Mike :) I wish I was in SF..

ok, waiting list started on eventbrite page. also, there are 25 tickets left just from bad transactions.

Wouldn’t one like this happen in UK :( ?

What’s the status? Both Wait-list and Ironman, the movie report “sold-out”.

Regardless, thanks for this, TC! Sounds like a ton of fun!

:( I’m so sad…. If i lived in the SF area and not Wisconsin, USA I would be there in a heartbeat!!

This is such an awesome thing, Mike… god you rule! (People can call me an ass kisser if they want, fuck em!) I’d give anything to be at this event. I wasn’t sure if you were kidding last night or not.. on twitter… but it looks like you were dead serious. LOL.

Well, let me know it was everyone! Have a killer time, this should be one for the books! Man I’ve never been so jealous in all my life… and I’ve been cheated on, been dirt poor, never been to SxSW, etc… but this usurps all jealousy!!! (Ok, i lied… not being able to go to Live8 and see Pink Floyd together again [with Roger] was the most jealous I’ve ever been… this is a damn close second.) ;)

Mike great idea!! If I wasn’t based in London I would be there in a heartbeat!!!!!

Got in, and I’ll see you there! Thanks, TC team!

wow cool, thanks for the update! it was sold out, but i was able to go back and get one of those 25 tickets

Wow, the wait list is sold out already as well. Worth checking back or showing up at the theater for extra tickets?

Darn on the east coast. Very cool of TC

Greg - weak. you’d be here if you really cared about techcrunch.

Will the new X-Files movie trailer be shown, as has been rumored??

Mike #44 LOL

Perhaps the opposite … “if Techcrunch really cared about its readers” …

Do something really innovative to overcome the time/distance problem for at least one lucky someone who wishes he/she could be at an event, but can’t.

Know those cool Honda Robots? Something like that, where it walks around an event (the New York meetup, the movie night), and is controlled by one lucky person via his/her computer. You win the golden “can’t travel that far” ticket, and shazaaam. You can sit at your laptop, and the Robot becomes a sort of ‘robo-avatar’ for an evening. You see what the robot sees as it meanders around the event … you talk to people … do elevator pitches to Mike and Heather and Erick … you make the Robo-avatar do sock puppet immitations of various people, etc.

The Techcrunch Robo-Avatar, for one lucky reader at each event. Get Honda on the phone, they’d make a great sponsor.

Damn, this is sold out already!

Some people have personal reasons not to be in the the Bay Area professionally. Your comment sounds very condescending to me.

Awesome idea Mike. Just wanted to add a little comment love which is certainly not the norm here. ;-)

Unfortunately, as usual, I’m late to the draw.

When’s the video game coming out? (who can deny that the screenshot looks more like xbox360 than silver screen?)

Ok, shameless plug: Iron Man Hardware by Marvel, Software by Oracle. Visit the Web site: http://www.Oracle.com/Marvel
